Staff Profiles - Surrey Independent Living Council

Jules

I am a qualified FE teacher having taught a range of subjects from Basic Skills, Teacher Training, Pottery, and Mosaics. I have been a Life Skills tutor at Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation in Leatherhead and a lecturer at Orchard Hill College. I began work at SILC in December having taken over from Dean Beverly's post and really enjoy my work.

LIKES:
Chocolate Truffles…( a bit pricey!) otherwise any milk chocolate will do, taking long walks around surrey, singing really well…out of tune, sunflowers, cooking, and making mosaics. I enjoy signing for the ‘Freewheelers Drama Group’, volunteering for ‘Footsteps’ and being with my loved ones.

DISLIKES:
Driving somewhere new…I always get lost!, Sour milk, butter, sexism and unkindness.

MY JOB:
I work four days a week and am funded by ‘Connexions’. My role is to provide advice, guidance and information about Direct Payments, education, work and social/community issues. I have been networking with a variety of organisations and young people to access their needs, opinions and choices available within Surrey. Currently, I am setting up a BLOG page as a means for young people to network and keep them informed with news and events as well make their own comments.
