Get involved

SILC is a voluntary organisation run by and for disabled people and we’d love you to become part of it. You can:

Become a member

Becoming a member of SILC is free and gives you the chance to be involved in helping the organisation fulfil its aims. We welcome feedback and suggestions about our services from all of our members. As a member, you can also vote at our AGMs and even stand for appointment to our Board of Trustees.

For a membership form, or details of associate membership for non-disabled people or organisations, please get in touch with the SILC office on 01483 458 111 or

Become a Trustee

A trustee helps to lead an organisation, decides how it should be run and is responsible for making sure that it is doing what it was set up to do. Being a trustee means making decisions that will genuinely impact on people’s lives.

As a User Led Organisation (ULO), SILC’s board of trustees is largely made up of individuals who use our services and have a first-hand understanding of the challenges facing our clients. This experience is vitally important in making sure that our work remains relevant and focused.

Your skills and experience can make a real difference to what we do and in return you will have the opportunity to learn more about running a charity and to pick up new skills from your co-trustees.

We are always keen to hear from people who are interested in volunteering in this way, whether disabled or not. All skills and experience are welcome, but we are particularly seeking volunteers with marketing, fundraising and legal expertise at the moment. Please get in touch with us on 01483 458 111 or to find out more.
